Dustin Payne

Dustin represents the third generation of professional western sculptors in his family. His father, Vic Payne, and grandfather, Ken Payne, are distinguished sculptors familiar to art lovers and collectors of western Americana. Ken began sculpting when he was 35; Vic when he was 19; and Dustin was only eight when he started his first piece, which he finished at age ten.

In the summer season, Dustin can often be found sculpting at one of the galleries that represents his work, so his customers can see first hand the creative process behind what he does. Whether the sculptor is present or not, people are drawn equally to the genuineness of feeling-for-the-subject and to the artistry of design and composition that are always apparent first in these clay models and in the finished bronzes bearing the Payne signature.

When not in the galleries, you can find Dustin sculpting along-side his father, Vic. They spend a lot of time in their studio in Cody, Wyoming with other talented artists who come in to work with them. Vic and Dustin often discuss new ideas for sculptures and anything else that might arise between a young twenty-first century cowboy sculptor and his dad, who is also role model, mentor, and best friend. Vic and Dustin's bronzes tell stories about pioneers, ranchers, explorers, and the cowboy way of life. Dustin is also an avid Team Roper. When not sculpting, Dustin enjoys training and competing in rodeo competitions.

Dustin was featured in the May 2002 Southwest Art Magazine and again in Southwest Art's annual "Top 21 under 31" in September of 2002. He was featured in Western Art Collector Magazine in 2008, and Art of the West Magazine in 2009. With Dustin's early start in his career, he has already achieved much success and he has advanced incredibly as a western sculptor.
